Create Day 2025

"Create Day" is themed around the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and aims to highlight the experience of children who are denied these rights due to conflict, war. persecution or natural disaster. Children across England come together in a mass participation performance with dancers and singers from the Royal Ballet and Opera, celebrating the power of the arts to unite communities, express feelings and explore important themes.

This year our Year 3 children were able to:

  • Explore parts of the Create Day dance, inspired by Crystal Pite’s ‘Covenant.’
  • Develop performance qualities: focus, breath work, and projection.
  • Learn Ayanna Witter-Johnson’s song ‘The Hope.’
  • Learn the actions for the song ‘The Hope’.
  • Make a Box of Hope which featured in the Create Day performance.

Their Learning Outcomes included:

  • Students develop their understanding of the theme, including through their creative expression in performance.
  • Student and teachers’ enjoyment of Create Day is enhanced by taking part in the creative process of the project (including the preparatory phase CPD and lessons).
  • Students feel their creativity and contribution is valued, including as part of a larger creative endeavour or event.
  • Teachers consolidate their confidence in teaching artforms (dance, singing, and design) in ways that align with the values of the programme (artistry and playfulness, inclusivity, and collaboration).
  • Students consolidate artform skills and knowledge that enhance their creativity.
  • Students develop stronger connections with peers and teachers (continuing to build on existing connections).
