This week children will be coming home with their World Book Day tokens. They can use them at a number of stores or they can use it at our Book Fair. Next week Book Fair will be arriving in school soon, with hundreds of new children’s books to browse and buy. There are over 200 titles for you and your child to choose from, and with prices starting from only £2.99, there’s sure to be a book for everyone. Don’t forget that every book you buy can help to get FREE BOOKS for our school library!
During book week the children will take part in various activities celebrating reading, culminating on Friday 15th March 2024 when we will be celebrating World Book Day. On World Book day, children should come to school dressed according to the theme or topic of their class book, which you are already aware of. We would like to encourage children to wear simple homemade costumes as they are often the best.
Nursery: 'People who help us' | Children could come dressed as anybody in the community who helps us from a firefighter, to a doctor or even a teacher. |
Reception: 'A character from their favourite book' | Children should come in dressed as a character from a book that they like and bring the book with them if they have it. |
Year 1: Polar Bears in the Arctic. | Children could come as any Arctic animal or just wear something white. |
Year 2: 'The Bear and the Piano' | The children could come to school dressed as a bear or, as the main character plays in lots of concerts, dressed up in their finest clothes as a member of the audience. |
Year 3: The Great Kapok Tree (The Rainforest) | The children should come to school as a rainforest animal or explorer, or simply wear green clothes. |
Year 4: The Amazon | Children should come in wearing an Amazon inspired costume or wear nice bright colours. |
Year 5: The adventures of Odysseus | Children should come to school dressed as someone from Ancient Greece; you could wear a toga or something in white |
Year 6:The Night Diary. | This is a story set in India during the Partition of India. Children can dress up as one of the characters, which include a maid, chef, doctor or grandmother. |
As part of our Book Week celebrations, we would like children to create a poster about their favourite author or book. It would be great if we could receive entries about new authors and different books that maybe not everyone is already familiar with. Each child who enters will receive a certificate and there will be winners in each year group. Please return your entries to your class teachers before the end of our Book Week.
