Sports Week 2023

This message is to remind you all about our upcoming Sports Week at Gearies Primary starting on Monday 10th July.

We will be traveling to Clayhall Park for 3 separate Sports Days for years 1-6. Reception will be playing equivalent Sports Day games in the main playground.

Monday 10th July, Years 6 & 4

Tuesday 11th July Years 5 & 3

Wednesday 12th July Years 1 & 2

Reception classes will be hosting their own events in the school playground on Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th. Please check full details on the Reception blog.

The children have all been assigned a house colour based on the Olympic Rings, and will be informed by their teacher which house team they are in. Please speak to your class teacher to confirm you have the correct information, as children are not allowed to change teams and it would be great if they can be dressed in the appropriate team colours on the day! Children will be expected to come to school as normal, although we would like them to come in (or bring with them to change into) clothes representing their house colours.

Please make sure your child is on time on this day, as we are looking to leave by 9.15am at the latest. Depending on weather at the time please bring a raincoat or apply sun cream before coming to school where appropriate. Also please make sure your child has a water bottle with them that day. We will have an area marked out near the Tennis courts in Clayhall park, and would love it if you could come and support your child on the day! Games are expected to start at around 10.15am, and lasting about 60-90mins.

Sports Day is intended to be competitive, and there will be a winning team. BUT, our overriding aim is that the children enjoy the day and take part with a good attitude of sportsmanship and compete fairly. Gearies children will be running the teams and games. They have been trained, and will do their best, but mistakes may happen, please remember that. We have tried very hard to ensure that everyone gets the best opportunity to have a fair amount of turns, but as you can imagine, with over 200 children per day, this may be difficult. Please be respectful of the children, staff and other parents! Also, please remember that this is a fun experience for your child that we have not been able to run for several years.

Photography is allowed, but please do your best to make sure this is only your own child, and please do not post any photos or videos on social media.

The games area will be roped off at a safe distance. If you are able to come and support, please stay on the side closest the footpath, and stay behind the markings. If you are following the movement of your child as they move around, please be careful to not enter the area where other children are competing.

Last year was a huge success and we would like to repeat that again this year! So please remember that any kind of unsocial or disrespectful behaviour is completely unacceptable and may result in your child being excluded from any further events on the day. Let’s all make this a brilliant day to remember for everyone!

Good luck, and have a great day

Mr Cross & Mrs Cotton
