Sports Award
We are delighted to announce another end of year sports award for the school – the Bronze mark from the School Games team. Well done to everyone involved in this.
Mitchell library move
As reported earlier this year, we are in the process of moving our school library – the Mitchell library, to its new location next to our Nursery. We have ordered some more shelves to house our book collection on. The move will take place over August, the new library will be ready to use when we return in September. A class timetable will be created, each class will be able to make a visit together on a planned session, to get children interested in books and for classes to borrow books to support their topics and book corners.
The old library room will be converted into the Palm room, a new space for interventions.
In the autumn term we also aim to introduce an outdoor reading area next to the library space in the main playground, so children have a pleasant space to read in at playtimes.
New Phonics Scheme
The school is in the process of buying a new DfE approved Phonics scheme to use in Reception and year One classes, called “Little Wandle”. This will include new teacher manuals, classroom resources and a big collection of related reading books for children to practice on. Teachers will be provided with online training in the first few weeks of term so they are ready to use this with the children as soon as induction week is over.
The resource package includes other support materials for use in other year groups.
We are spending a lot of money on the scheme, over £13,000, and are delighted to be investing in a very important resource. In order to meet the expenditure, we will be organizing lots of fundraising events over the next year to help fund our costs.
Emotional Literacy Award
Congratulations to Mr Migan and Mrs Haider on being awarded a special certificate by the Redbridge Education Welfare Team (REWT)for “Showing Initiative”. On Thursday July 30th they attended the ELSA conference for Redbridge, with all of the other ELSA teams from schools around the borough. Together they presented their Year 6 workshop on "Managing Anxiety and Self Esteem" which was very well received and many schools asked for the material so they could deliver it to their students as well. In recognition for their work on this and also the RAW Music Project every week they were honoured with the "Showing Initiative Award" for always being Two Steps Ahead and creating bespoke interventions for children in our school.
School Meals
Please be aware, as previously confirmed, we are moving to a new contractor for our school meals - Pabulum. There will be a new payment scheme for parents to use, as soon as we have details we will be in touch before the end of term.
