News roundup

Welcome back to a new term in school, unfortunately we find ourselves back in a new national lockdown.  I hope you and your family are all healthy and if you are not, I hope you make a speedy recovery.  I would like to express my enormous thanks to my staff for working so hard this week and providing such excellent learning for the children.  The school team has as usual risen to the challenge of Lockdown with a swift and considered reply, I hope to resolve all remaining barriers to accessing learning either in school or remotely by the end of next week, or sooner if possible.  Thank you also for your support and for bearing with us whilst we finalise our learning offer to the children.  I am hoping, by the end of next week, to be able to publish a statement of our Remote Learning Offer for you to refer to, giving details for each year group of the amount of direct teaching we will provide and how much time the children are expected to spend learning each day.  Please watch out for this

School health and safety

During the school day we will continue to follow our existing safety measures – staff will keep 2m distance from other adults at all times, they will wear a mask around school when not directly teaching children, all children and adults will wash their hands whenever possible or use sanitiser, and all teaching spaces will be well ventilated.  Children in Y2, Y3, Y4, Y5 and Y6 classes will be learning in socially distanced work spaces, at least 2m distanced from each other.  The latest update to our Covid Risk Assessment will be ready for publication early next week – this will be version 9 of our original plan.

In our first week of term a total of seven colleagues were recorded as infected, giving us an infection percentage of 1 in 13.  Nationally it is 1 in 50 and in London it is 1 in 30.  This is 7% of our community-  a sobering statistic.  My thoughts to all these colleagues and wishes for a speedy recovery.

The wellbeing of everyone in our school community is our top priority and everything possible will be done to ensure we all stay safe and happy.

Newsletter

Please note the latest school newsletter was published this week on the Blog and our school website.

Parent Consultations

Advance notice that these will be virtual and will take place between 3:30 and 5:30pm on 10th February and during the day on 12th February (arrangements and times to be confirmed nearer the date).  To make an appointment see details on relevant SchoolPing message sent by your child’s class teacher nearer the time.  Your child's mid-year school report will be sent to you via SchoolPing before that meeting, giving details of progress to date and goals to achieve over the rest of the school year.

Assessment

The DfE have confirmed the cancellation of all statutory summative assessment this academic year, this includes KS1 Teacher Assessment, KS2 tests and teacher assessment, and phonics screening check.  The school still expects teachers to assess each child using our own internal assessment procedures.  We do expect each teacher to continue to work hard to support the progress and attainment of each class in the school, and to use our models of best practice to support great outcomes for each child.  We do expect to report end of year attainment results to you, using our own resources.
