News update 1st October 2020

Face masks an social distancing

Parent are reminded of the importance of wearing a face mask when out in public and keeping 2m distance from others at all times.  Please help to keep our community safe and follow the latest government instructions.

Birthday gifts

If parents wish to send presents in to school to give to their child's friends in class to mark their birthday, please follow our guidance.  Consumable foods are not allowed, including sweets and cake.  A more appropriate gift is a small toy, book, pencil sets or craft resources.  Gifts now have to be isolated for two days before they can be given out, so if it is important these are distributed on the day itself, you will need to bring them in two days beforehand, to ensure they are free from contagion.

Change of INSET day

Please note we have officially changed the date of the next INSET day.  The school will be closed on Friday 23rd October for staff training.  This is the day before the half term break.  The school will re-open at the usual times on Monday 2nd November.  This was agreed by the Board of Governors last night.  We are sorry if this causes any inconvenience.

Photo tour of the school

As we are currently not able to let parents into the school, a photo tour of the school has been created to showcase what we look like inside.  https://www.geariesprimaryschool.co.uk/ This video has been published on our school website and visits most places around our site.  We hope you enjoy the tour.

The Gearies Recovery Curriculum 2020

So far our plans to meet the children's needs have gone well.  The first part of our education plan was to teach lessons to all classes focussing on wellbeing and social skills.  We successfully completed this approach in the first two weeks.  We are now concentrating on teaching mostly a diet of English and Maths revision each day, to help children recall all lost learning.  Towards half term each child will be re-assessed to determine their current levels of understanding.  Data collected will be used to inform lesson planning and ability groups.  This will mostly be completed for half term.  Most classes will then start teaching our normal broad and balanced curriculum, informed by the recent assessment data.  We will be able to share news of attainment levels and how parents can support children's learning at home at the next parent consultations, due to take place after half term.  The dates will be confirmed with you shortly.
