Zoom lessons

The school is now conducting an impressive number of Zoom lessons with almost each child every week.  We are reviewing our practice in this and improving the focus and quality literally each week.  Thank you to all the parents who are helping us manage teaching in this method.  These are proving very successful, and the children are responding very well.

Class teachers are expected to teach at least one English and one Maths lesson each week to every child in their class.  We are adding to this a range of other lessons, including online PE lessons for children in years 3, 4 and 5, some bespoke lessons for EAL learners, some small group SEND lessons and some targeted wellbeing lessons for children who have asked for support.

Parents are reminded of the detail of the Parental Agreement and ask that these are followed.  Parents must refrain from interfering in the lessons, trying to talk to the teachers whilst they are teaching and communicating with children whilst the lessons are underway.  Children are also expected to behave themselves when online.  Breaches of the protocol may result in a child removed from the lesson.

A copy of the agreement is attached to refresh your memory.

GEARIES PRIMARY SCHOOL

Parental agreement for participating in video conference sessions

Our aim is to maintain our community approach.  In times where our children and staff are not at school and home based, we want to provide an opportunity for our staff and children to stay in contact with each other.

We will use video conference technology to provide a secure meeting place for each class for a few minutes so that class teachers and children do not feel isolated.

The sessions will last approximately 20-30 minutes – just so the teachers can maintain some form of communication with those children who are willing to participate and to abide by the rules of conduct.  We are asking for your support and understanding in undertaking this new way of connecting with your child whilst they are at home.

Please note that the school is not responsible for the quality of your video conference connection.  The quality relies heavily on your internet connection at home and the device you are using.

1.     Please abide by the code of conduct.

2.     Any parent or child sharing the URL or PIN with another adult or child will be excluded from these sessions.

3.     Other than by the teacher, no videos, recording or photos of the video conferences sessions will be allowed.

4.     NO images/recordings of the video conference are permitted to be shared on social media.

5.     The children must follow the behaviour policy of the school even though they are at home.

6.     There will be zero tolerance of any verbal/ visual abuse towards staff or other pupils during the video conference.

7.     Should you lose the URL link or PIN please contact the class teacher by email, 24 hours before the video conference session.  Less than 24 hours notice may mean that you are not able to connect into the session.

8.     By signing this agreement, you are giving permission to the school to record your child during the video conference session, for safeguarding and monitoring purposes only.

9.     The school will do its best to give at least 24 hours notice if there is a reason that the session needs to be cancelled.

10.  Parents are not to engage in conversation with teachers during the session – this can be done over email. This session is for the children only.

11.  No other child or adult is to be seen on the screen.  Child only.

If any of the above rules are broken you will be blocked from the session and from future sessions.
