Summary of Week Eight

Attendance at our Daycare provision:
Bookings for daycare have increased slightly for week nine, in response to the Prime Minister’s statement last weekend.  New bookings have been received from teacher parents and from vulnerable families.
Our Unit is a friendly and happy community.  The new focus for the daily learning is well received by the children, particularly the opportunities to engage in learning that cannot be replicated at home.

Pupil wellbeing
Class teachers have worked hard to follow up on communication with families.  Our thanks to them for a sensitive and caring approach.  We now have a definitive picture of where support needs to be directed to, and who needs to be offered more support.  Mrs Dias is offering home visits and drive-by conversations to provide options of support to the most vulnerable.  This approach, although quite time consuming, has proved quite effective in providing the right guidance and reassuring families we are here for them.

Pupil reports
Most reports have by now been sent home.  Our thanks to the office team for their hard work in sending these out.

Arts Projects
We have received a lot of self-portraits so far, some are stunning.  Please remember to ensure your child finishes their self-portrait before the deadline of Wednesday.

Home Learning summary
How many children are engaging with the home learning?
Engagement is still on average quite high but variable.  A lot of learning is taking place off-line, with work in books completed by children in preference to online.
Some excellent work is being produced at home in all year groups.  This is really encouraging.
SEND children also appear to be engaging more frequently with their bespoke learning content.

What have you been doing to refresh the content over the week?
The Early Years have promoted a lot of phonics and reading activities, as well as a good diet of practical learning.
The broad curriculum is now being produced quite consistently across the school.
Feedback on how to improve work is also having a good impact on the quality of learning.
Teachers across the school are continuing to make good use of online platforms, including Purple Mash, Education City, Busy Things and BBC Bitesize.
Some of the responses to the “100 word challenge” blog has been excellent.  This platform offers a good degree of challenge and inspiration, particularly the feedback that the children receive on their writing.

Identify any problems
Teachers have been busy offering further support to any parent not successfully logging into accounts.
