End of year newsletter

Last day of term
Tuesday 23rd July: school closes at the usual times

We would like to wish everyone a happy summer holiday, congratulate the children on their numerous achievements during the year and thank the staff and governors for their outstanding work this year.  A big thank you also to all our parents and carers for their encouragement and support.

All children will return to school at the usual times on Wednesday 4th September.  Children will need to line up in their new lining up positions in our refurbished playground.  Signs will be posted in the correct locations, please note your child’s new class name.  Staff will be on hand to direct you if you are not sure.  Please note from September, all classes will line up in our main playground, using the two available entrances in Gantshill Crescent.

Building works
Our new building is due to open in September.  Year Five and Six are set to be the first children to learn in it.  We are planning a grand opening event later in the autumn, we will keep you posted of progress with this.
In addition to the new building, a range of internal works will be taking place in the summer, including a new medical room and the relocation of the Year One Unit.
The plan for the main playground and completing the works in the Reception playground are still being finalised.  We hope the majority of the works will be completed in time for the start of term.  When you return, the playground aspect should be radically improved.  The site compound should be removed and a wide-open playground should be revealed with a repaired surface to play on.  Th other additions, including the Well-being Hub and fitness zones, are also hoped to be finished by then.
Watch the blog for photo updates on progress over the summer weeks.

Another successful school year
We are now able to look back on the school’s successes and reflect on a wonderfully successful year.  We will prepare a more detailed breakdown for you in September, however here a few highlights to enjoy over the summer:
·       (see pupil test results below)
·       The local authority’s latest grading for the school remains Outstanding (maintained for the past six years)
·       2019 Parent questionnaire results included 97% of responses indicating that children are happy at the school and taught and led well
·       Our Kurling team were the 2019 Redbridge Champions and represented the local authority in the London Youth Games
·       The school’s entry were finalists in the national 2019 “Apps for Good” competition
·       Our Signing Choir made it to the finals of the Redbridge Signing competition in July
·       Our Inclusive Tag Rugby Tournament project was awarded the Small Grants for Schools Judges Award at the finals held at City Hall in July
·       Three teachers were nominated for National Teaching Awards this year
·       Mr Drew was awarded the status of Fellow at the Chartered College of teaching in June

End of year pupil results
We have now received all of the children’s end of year attainment results from the DfE.  The results notices have now all been given out or sent home.
We will publish a full summary of these results in September.  We have noted again some wonderfully high standards.  Highlights include:
·       Higher than national results in all areas of the Early Learning Goals (Reception)
·       93% of children in Year One passed the Phonics Screening Check, our usually high standard and much higher than the national average
·       Average pass rate in Year Two for Reading, Writing and Maths remains at 84%, significantly higher than the national average
·       Attainment for the most-able children in year two is at least twice the national average in all subjects
·       Attainment in Year Six is above the national and local averages for all subjects
·       Superb results for the Greater Depth level in Year Six, with children achieving 38% in reading, 48% in writing and 43% in mathematics, all considerably higher than national averages
We would like to congratulate the children on their successes and pay tribute to their teachers who worked tirelessly to support their achievements.  We are really pleased with a very successful year, again!

Staffing News
At the end of term, we sadly bid farewell to Miss Ross who will be leaving us, we wish her all the best in her future career and thank her for her service to the school.  Miss O’Reilly and Mrs Dawood will be taking maternity leave in early September, returning at the start of the following school year.
As the year draws to a close we will be greeting some new colleagues who will join us in September.  We formally welcome Miss Yerosimou, Miss Khatun and Miss Khalid to the teaching staff as permanent teachers.  Our teaching team will also be joined by Miss Osafo, who joins us to take up a post in Year Three.  We also welcome Mrs Choudhury as a part-time teacher, covering Mrs Dawood’s responsibilities next year.
Finally, we have appointed a number of new SEND Practitioners to complete our SEND support team.  They include Mrs Kaur and Mrs Prabhu.
Please offer all of these new colleagues a warm welcome in September.

Summer Fun Day – 5th July
We enjoyed a really fun event this year.  The attendance was amazing and the atmosphere was great.   Feedback from the PTA, our children and their parents was very positive indeed.  As soon as the total of monies raised has been calculated, we will share this with you.
We extend a big thank you to all the families who attended our milestone community event of the year.  Our grateful thanks also go to the hard working members of the PTA itself who organised the whole event.  They worked tirelessly to ensure the event went well.  Their support is especially special to the school.

Summer Reading Challenge
We would encourage all children to sign up to take part in the local Libraries’ Summer Reading Challenge.  This a free event and will help the children to stay engaged with developing their reading skills over the summer holidays.  All you need to do is to go to one of the local libraries, register and then start reading and reviewing as many books as you can.  We hope you enjoy taking part.

We would like to wish everyone a happy summer holiday.  We hope you have a well-deserved rest and look forward to supporting your children when they return in September.
