We are very proud to publish our analysis of last year's pupil data:
Attainment and progress data
2017-2018
Summary and action plan
Following the publication
of our end of year school data on the Department of Education’s (DfE) web site,
we have produced a summary of key school data and our action plan to further
raise standards.
Our full set of
performance data for each year group, with details of each year group’s subject
targets and performance was published in September 2018 on the school website: http://www.geariesprimaryschool.co.uk/end-of-key-stage-attainment/
The school collects a
very detailed set of data for each year group including performance in each
subject area for key groups, trends over time and an analysis of trends. This data is shared with the Board of Governors
regularly, and our action plans are constantly updated to ensure end of year
targets are likely to be met.
The DfE only collects
data on statutory assessments, which are at the end of reception, the Y1 and Y2
Phonic screening checks, Y2 Teacher assessment and Y6 SATs and Teacher
Assessments.

The school was moderated
by the local authority in June 2018 to confirm the accuracy of our Y2
assessment judgements and processes.
The school is very proud
of its continued outstanding rates of attainment, which continue to be higher
than local and national results in 96% of all comparisons.

2017-2018 action plan
The areas identified to
strengthen over the coming year:
·
Further raise
standards in the Reception classes, by reducing the gender gap in attainment
·
Offer more
challenge to the more able children throughout key stage two classes
·
Focus on the
progress of each child in Year Six, to ensure they all make expected rates of
progress in all areas of learning, and in reading in particular.
In order to continue to
maintain standards and increase performance further the school is currently
working hard on the following actions:
·
Each teacher is
monitored by a member of the Strategic Leadership Team (SLT), at least once a
term, to ensure standards of teaching and learning meet the school’s
expectations. Developmental feedback
is offered to each teacher on ways to further strengthen their teaching.
·
Class teachers
assess each child’s attainment in each subject every half term and results are
analysed by the SLT. Children who
are not meeting our identified minimum standards are focussed on and teaching
strategies monitored to ensure this is in line with our view of best practice. The SLT meets with each year group each
half term to review progress and make further recommendations to raise
standards.
·
In year six, the
class teachers have given each child specific end of year attainment targets
for each subject. Progress in
meeting these is monitored each half term. Standards of learning are measured in the use of mock
tests. In addition, we are using a
published scheme called Accelerated Reader with children for whom end of year
attainment at any level is a particular challenge. We are currently using this with over 50 children in the
year group to support them to achieve their highly challenging personal
targets. A number of the school’s
Senior Leaders have been supporting the year Six teachers since September to
ensure their teaching is of the highest quality. Mr Lea is supporting writing, Mrs Dias is supporting reading
and Mrs O’Driscoll is supporting mathematics. Each of these teachers is a Specialist Leader of Education
(SLE), accredited in the national programme by the Teaching School. Each class teacher has also
communicated personal plans to the children’s parents on ways they can support
their children in preparation for their tests in May 2018.
We are confident we will
meet our targets this year and we will improve on the progress rates,
especially in reading in year six.
We look forward to working with all parents to support the children to
do their best, in each class, in each subject. Progress on our plans and the effectiveness is reported each
term to the local authority link advisor and to the Board of Governors.
Please make an
appointment with Mr Drew if you would like to discuss any of this data further.
