“BRING A PARENT
TO SCHOOL”
(known previously as “Parents learning in the classroom”)
Year Five classes
To parents and carers,
We are happy to offer all parents and carers of
children in the Year Five classes the opportunity to take part in our highly
popular “Bring a Parent to School” programme. You may well have taken part in this over the past year when
your child was in a different year group (known then as “Parents learning in
the classroom”). This year group are
holding all of their sessions in the autumn term only.
Aims:
- to help parents understand how children learn
- to help parents understand how teachers teach
- to improve children’s standards
- to help parents understand ways of supporting
children more effectively at home
- to improve communication between home and
school
The Programme
- One parent for each child will come to observe
one lesson in the classroom and work next to their child
- You will sit next to your child, observe how
he/she learns, the things he/she is good at and also the things he/she
needs to improve on
- You will be able to observe the teaching
strategies your child’s class teacher uses to support your child in class
- We will encourage you to support your child in
their learning tasks in the lesson
- We normally only have up to 5 parents in any
one lesson at a time
- A DBS check on parents is not necessary
- Confidentiality is really important. Parents must agree not to discuss
what they see or hear in the classroom with others outside. A breach of this confidentiality
will result in the closure of the programme.
You will need to see
your child’s class teacher, as soon as possible, to make
an appointment for your visit.
The Year Five sessions
will begin after the half term break.
When you attend,
please remember the following:
·
On the day of
your appointment you will need to report to the school office to sign in,
before coming down to your child’s classroom
·
please turn off
your mobile phone during the visit
·
we are unable
to accommodate younger siblings in pushchairs when you come
·
It is a goal to
make appointments with all parents to take part. This will really support your
understanding of your child’s learning needs and will be useful for you to help
them make further progress.
When attending a “Bring
a Parent to School” session you are
agreeing to:
- Support your child with his/her learning
- Not discuss the other children with anyone
outside of school
We look forward to
seeing you in school soon.
