The news that our Queen had passed away on Thursday afternoon was announced at 6:30pm. Although we were aware she was very old and fragile, this has come as a great shock to us all. Her passing is indeed a very sad moment, she always seemed a permanent part of our lives and an agent of good in the changing times we are living in. Please share a thought with me and reflect on her inspirational life and her service to our great nation. We are all grateful to her for her vision, humility and dedication to us all, we are all diminished by her passing.
The Royal family will be coming to terms with their loss, they will be in our thoughts and prayers over the coming days. It is always difficult to learn to live without someone close to you, I cannot imagine how sad they must be right now.
With the passing of the Queen, the responsibility of leading our country is now passed to our new King, Charles III. We wish him well in the years to come and pray he finds the strength to lead with compassion and understanding. Long live the King.
Our Union Jack will be lowered to half mast first thing in the morning as a mark of respect. There will be a special assembly to place the day in context for all the children to watch. Class teachers will adapt their lessons to include some learning reminding the children of the Queen’s life, what service means and how we look forward to the coronation of our new King on the throne of the United Kingdom.
The arrangements for a period of national mourning have yet to be announced, as soon as details are confirmed they will be shared with you.
