Excellent phonics teaching in Year Two

A very big well done to the teaching team in Year Two who recently conducted their phonic screening checks (PSCs) with the children.  91% of the children passed, a truly impressive achievement much higher than the national average of 85%, well done to the team on their collective focus, outstanding standards and this great achievement.  And of course a big well done to the children for learning so well.

Private Tutors

We are ware that private tutors have recently been advertising their business outside the school recently.  Parents are advised to be cautious about engaging their services, please bear the following in mind.  Most never consult the school on our teaching programme and often teach unhelpful strategies that sometimes confuse children.  If you are considering finding a tutor to support your child's learning you should conduct thorough background checks in advance; do they have appropriate English teaching qualifications, can you scrutinise their safeguarding checks (DBS documents) and can they supply genuine references by other parents.

Changes in Governing Board membership

There have been some changes to the membership of our Board of Governors.  Mr Zaman has recently resigned in response to his employment relocation abroad, and  Dr Hossain's term of office as a parent governor has just ended.  We thank both of them for their support and dedication to our school community and wish them both well in their careers.  The Board recently co-opted Mr Jaleel to the Board to fill an existing vacancy.  We look forward to working with him in the coming years.  The vacancy for parent governor will be advertised in January, if you are interested in being nominated please watch our for news on the process in the new term.

Lost property

We are attempting to reunite the large amount of lost property with its owners at the moment.  Any items that have names in, have been given back to the child in question, however most is unmarked.  Each year group will be invited to browse the items in an outdoor location in the course of next week.  Each year group will have a unique invitation for a day each, this will be communicated on SchoolPing, please watch out for a message next week.  We are hoping to spread out parents browsing to encourage responsible distancing and help reduce the risk of spreading Covid within the community.  Anything still unclaimed by January will be donated to a clothing charity.

Short notes:

  • School closure for Queen's Platinum Jubilee - the proposed date of Monday 20th June has now been confirmed by the Board of Governors
  • Final total on monies raised for Children in Need - well done everyone for supporting our fundraising efforts on 19th November.  We are happy to confirm we raised an impressive £460.80 for this important charity.  This will be forwarded as soon as possible.
