Protecting the community from Covid

As we have returned to school after the half term break the children all seem happy and well settled in their classes.  Each class recently gave feedback to their class teachers on how they are feeling about the pandemic and their lives in the "new normal".  The feedback has been very honest and revealing, with much positivity and hope expressed by children in each year group.  There are clear ongoing concerns and fears that still lurk underneath their smiling faces and we intend to respond with actions shortly.  The full results and school response will be shared with you in the next few weeks.

In order to reassure everyone we can confirm the following precautions have continued to be taken in school to help prevent transmission of Covid 19:

  • each class is isolated for the entire school day, even at playtimes and lunchtimes.
  • all assemblies are virtual
  • children wash and sanitise their hands whenever they re-enter their classroom, at least 3 times each day
  • the school communal spaces are cleaned during the school day as well as at the end
  • staff stay 2m distant from each other at all times
  • staff wear face masks when moving around within the school
  • all adults in the building take two lateral flow tests each week to ensure they are not positive and carrying the virus
As a result it has been three months since the last recorded positive case in the school.  So far we have had no transmission of the virus within the building since January.  Our safety procedures have been very effective to date.

Please continue to stay 2m distant from others on your journey to and from school and remember to follow the government's guidance on Covid restrictions in your daily life.

We await news on whether any of our precautions can be further lifted after June 21st, which is only 10 days away now.  There have been no hints from local or national government on what might be in store.  We very much hope that we can move out of class bubbles by September and return our playground space to its normal open aspect.  When news is confirmed the school's decisions will be shared with you.

Locally, infection rates in Redbridge continue to be very low, though there has been a rise in isolations in secondary schools since May.  Even with these new measures, infections are still very low.  The dominant variant in the borough is the new Delta variant.  We would encourage everyone who is eligible to seek a vaccination, our nearest centre is in the car park next to Gants Hill library on Cranbrook Road.  The centre is also able to issue you with free lateral flow tests if you want to test yourself and family at home regularly.
