There are currently a growing number of infections in the Redbridge area and schools have been heavily affected. There are 3,700 children in Redbridge schools self-isolating at the moment and the rate is increasing each week. Redbridge is currently the 68th worst affected local authority in England and likely to overtake this position soon as rates in some other parts of the country are reducing. In London, only Havering has a higher current infection rate. The three most infected wards in our local authority are Cranbrook, Newbury Park and Clayhall, our school is surrounded by high infection. London is being put back into Tier 2 on Wednesday following the end of National Lockdown.
We have been asked to take further steps to reduce the risk of infection within the school as a priority over providing interventions and catch-up. This includes creating class bubbles, a change from our existing year group bubbles. Some of our usual support and organisation will be temporarily changed to prevent infection between classes, we hope to return to a more normal provision once local infections return to a less alarming level. This includes smaller playground saces for the children to play in, not mixing with other classes at break times, and reducing some support that happens between classes by non-class based staff. We will endeavor to provide the best education we can for the children, please bear with us whilst we are taking these steps.
