We have had a very turbulent week in school and are pleased to have completed the week in such good spirits.
You will be aware I had to send into self-isolation the Reception Year group, the KS1 bubble at the Breakfast Club and all the members of staff who taught them, as a precaution to stop further spread of Covid-19 in the school. This was because one of the Reception children tested positive whilst unwell at home, actions were taken as soon as the news was confirmed. I am not aware that the virus has been passed on to anyone yet within the school, I hope the swift action will keep everyone safe. My thoughts are with everyone now in quarantine at home, I hope they are all well and keeping in good spirits.
Whilst they are all in self-isolation they should all remain at all times in the home, and not leave for any reason at all. I appreciate this is a big inconvenience, careful following of rules though will help stop the spread of the virus.
Mr Lea is working hard with the Reception team to offer online learning whilst in lockdown, throughout the two week period. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on 7th October.
This infection is not really a surprise as Redbridge currently has the highest infection rate in Greater London, good reason for us all to take take care when out and about. Please follow the government guidelines at all times and stay safe. I am aware there are currently at least 20 other schools in Redbridge with at least one year group in lockdown, many of which are our neighbours. I expect this list to expand rapidly over the coming weeks. I recommend you wear face masks when bringing children to school and keep 2m distance from all adults at all times.
Each year group is setting up a blog for you to access, they will all be up and running by the end of next week. Teachers will be posting details here of revision and home learning that can be completed, this will complement the current focus in class. Each teacher is now teaching revision lessons over the coming weeks to help the children catch up with their progress. We aim to assess the children in reading, writing and maths by half term in order to establish an accurate picture of their learning needs, and then to teach to these from that point on. We will be sharing this data with you in the autumn term parent consultations, yet to be confirmed but likely to be in the weeks after half term.
