Considering Home education?

Considering home education because of COVID19 worries?

Please think carefully.

Making the decision to Elective Home Educate is a considerable undertaking. The Local Authority will not provide tuition or educational support for a child that is electively home educated.  You will be responsible for providing education that is suitable for the child/children that you have decided to educate at home.  You do not need to be a teacher or have any formal qualifications to teach at home. However, under the law, the Local Authority have monitoring and welfare responsibilities for children who are electively home educated. Should you decide to return to school having once undertaken elective home education, there is no assurance that you will be able to return to the school that your child has left.

We accept parent’s right to home school their children. We want to make sure every child receives their right to an effective education. There are potential limitations to Elective Home Education; including potential loss of friendship groups, isolation, having to secure your own teaching and learning resources and a possible uncertainty on the level of input to secure children’s progress.

If families wish to opt for EHE studies, each family will need to confirm their decision in writing to the school and complete the EHE registration form: https://eforms.redbridge.gov.uk/elective-home-education/
