Return to school
We have a total of 35 Year Six children registered in the four classes. Our teaching team have been very adaptable this week to respond to changing uptake, and the classes are averaging nine per room. Lessons and learning are progressing well, and the children are getting used to the demands of social distancing and the unusual classroom layouts. My thanks especially to Mr Hession for leading the learning content.
On Monday we are ready to welcome back 33 children in Year One. These have been re-organised into 5 classrooms. Louise has worked hard to ensure the team are fully briefed on their roles.
I have also agreed to set up two Year Five classes to support the requests from 21 children to return. These will return on Tuesday.
Home learning
Nominated colleagues in each year group will be supervising the provision of home learning in the last weeks of the summer term. They will continue to set homework for children and offer at least two Zoom lessons per week, one English and one maths lesson. Our expectation is that each child should either complete home learning or take part in the Zoom lessons; both are preferable.
We are now offering additional Zoom lessons to selected children, to enhance this basic provision. This includes PE lessons for Y3, 4 and 5 classes, lessons for EAL learners, bespoke support for SEND children and pupil well-being is being offered by our ELSA team.
Transition to new classes
In order to support the transition of children from one year group to the next, we will be ensuring that each teacher will pass on key information to the children’s new teachers before the end of the summer term. Teachers will also be holding a Zoom greeting meeting on the last day of term with their new classes.
Summer holidays
Each year group is preparing a learning project for the children to engage with over the summer holiday, to support their continued learning. This is likely to be made up of a topic pack of learning activities that children will either collect from the school office in the last week of term or are delivered to their homes. The packs may include resources and instructions, learning details and directions for where to get support from. These packs will be prepared shortly ready for distribution.
Autumn term
We do not at the moment have confirmation of a date to resume normal schooling, however it is anticipated to be early September. Parents are advised to monitor the blog in the coming weeks for this news, which will be announced by the government.
Other news
Staff changes – please note that Miss Kaur has recently resigned from her appointment in order to offer support a family member, and Miss Dissanayake will be leaving us in September to join a teacher training programme. We thank both colleagues for their service to our community and wish them well in their careers.
