Keyworker Daycare
As expected, the number of children in our Daycare Unit has increased this week. The children are divided into keystage groups and are asked to socially distance in the school. My thanks to each member of the teaching team who have led the provision so well this week. They have all done a wonderful job and the children are in very good hands. Due to increasing numbers an additional colleague will be joining the team each day as from Monday 15th. That means a total of five colleagues supervising the groups.
Return of year Six
Plans are complete for the return of the Year six classes, though take-up has been disappointing - currently only 39% of the year group are expected to attend next week. Progress each day will be reviewed and amendments made to our health and safety procedures if necessary. I am considering the option of offering the empty places to the Year Five children if the year six take up does not improve.
Home learning
All children are expected to engage with the home learning set by the teachers, and also to take part in any Zoom lessons they have been invited to. Please support your children's learning each week.
Progress with Projects
We have a number of teaching and learning projects underway at the moment.
- A team are looking into the possibilities offered by Google Education, for further online teaching. Recommendations will be made by the end of the term.
- We have been invited to take part in a further arts/literacy project with the team that brought you the year six languages project "At home I speak". A bid for funding is underway, we are hoping to design a project to tie into our Recovery Curriculum plans.
- A book based home learning project is being launched next week for disadvantaged children, based on either "Rooftoppers" or "Charlotte's Web". We hope to be able to get the learning packs to families early next week.
- Progress with the previously advertised Quilt of Hope project is ongoing.
- The Lockdown Mural in the Reception garden is underway. Rain has delayed more work but progress will be continued next week.
- We will be starting work on a summer holiday learning project, in consultation with year group representatives. An initial ideas meeting will take place next week.
Return of Year One
Plans for the return of Year One in the week beginning 22nd June have now been published. The briefing meeting for the Y1 team will take place next Wednesday morning (see below).
Return of further year groups
The DfE have recently announced that they realise it will not be possible to support schools in getting all year groups to return to school in some way before the end of term. We have at present no news on what can be expected in September. As soon as details are announced you will be informed.
Summer holiday
At present the school will be fully closed on the summer holiday period. There will be no access to Keyworker Daycare over August either.
Details of the children's new classes for the next academic year will be shared with you before the end of term. I am hoping to organise a Zoom meeting with the new teachers on the 20th July. Details will follow.
