News and events
1. National Teaching School status:
As you are aware, the school made an application last September to the Department for Education to become a Teaching School. We are very happy to announce that we received confirmation from the National College of Teaching and Leadership last week that our bid has been successful.
Charlie Taylor, Chief Executive of the NCTL responded that “the response to this application round has been excellent, both in terms of the number and quality of applications received”, and we are pleased our application was accepted within the quality of this field of applicants.
The status now allows us to develop our plans to strengthen the school even further with collaborative projects with our colleagues in the Gants Hill Partnership. These are already documented in our Development Plan and include:
• further research to improve the teaching and learning of reading, writing and mathematics
• supporting the professional development of teachers and other colleagues
• contributing to local Initial Teacher Training
• creating new leadership possibilities for teachers
• supporting other schools to improve their standards
Mr Drew will be working with our partners to realise these plans now and will continue to keep you updated on news as it develops.
We are very happy to welcome to our staffing team the following colleague: Mrs Joy who will join the midday team. Please welcome her to our school community. We look forward to working with her.
3. School library refurbishment
The school has been in receipt of a very generous donation from a former pupil who bequeathed monies to the school in order to improve our facilities. We will now be able to completely refurbish our library, which will be dedicated to the Mitchell family, and re-furnish all our classrooms with matching furniture. We will be placing orders with suppliers and contacting contractors to ensure this project is completed by the end of the summer holiday.
4. Coming Events
We have not yet confirmed the arrangements for the following regular school events: Sports week, end of term class shows, End of term Music Show, Singing festival, and Summer Fundraiser. As soon as the dates and times have been confirmed we shall pass them on to you. Watch this space!
